Vintage books will go under the hammer at an auction that will take place online
Bibliophiles, in search of classics, now need to look no further. A 24-hour o online sale will have on offer books on topics ranging from Indian paintings and fabrics to fairytales, mythology, h history, politics and memoirs. Book lovers can also bid for 50 rare, o out-of-print collectibles, dating back to the 19th century.
Some notable reads that will be up for sale include a two-volume set of the first edition of Mahatma Gandhi’s The Story Of My Experiments With Truth, estimated at 1.25-1.75 lakh; the first draft of The Constitution of India with illustrations by artist Nandalal Bose and the signatures of the framers of the constitution; Chintz, a deluxe two-volume limited edition book featuring the exquisite fabric collection of Calico Museum of Textiles, Ahmedabad; Iqbal, a rare book with colour plates by AR Chugtai, estimated at 2.75-3.25 lakh; a limited edition three-volume set on Edwin Lutyens’s architecture with drawings and photos; signed books by Everest mountaineer Edmund Hillary; a signed and limited-edition copy of Inner Circle by Jerzy Peterkiewicz. There is also a limited-edition monograph on SH Raza signed by the artist, as well as the Kama Sutra of Vatsayana published by Sanskriti Pratishthan and Mullk Raj Anand, which contains 270 pages of photographic plates. The Rubaiyat Of Omar Khayyam, among others, will also be on sale.
Talking about the auction, Minal Vazirani, co-founder of Saffronart and StoryLTD.com (the site that will host the auction), says, “These books are rare documents of history and culture that one can no longer access easily. This auction provides an opportunity to discover and learn from the leaders of art, history, politics and civilisations. In giving collectors a unique perspective of our aesthetic and cultural practices, these books allow readers to build stronger collections of art.”
